Rogue

Rogues are a lightly armored melee class capable of dealing massive damage to their enemies in a flurry of attacks. They are masters of stealth and assassination, passing by enemies unseen and striking from the shadows, then escaping from combat in the blink of an eye. Rogues also utilize poisons that damage or cripple their enemies, reducing their effectiveness in battle. Groups will find rogues valuable, for not only do they deal massive damage, but they can open locked doors or chests, and disarm hidden traps as well.

Rogues are arguably the highest damage dealing class in the game and have had a very comfortable spot as the top of the food chain in PVP for years. Most of these explanations will be over simplified because the class itself is so intricate and detailed that Id’ be here for months and still only go into a fraction of the information.

Assassination: Assassination is now one of the more powerful specs of the class. It’s the iconic talent tree of rogues in World of Warcraft, focusing on daggers as the primary weapon and giving tons of bonuses to damage dealt by poisons and values speed and fluidity over brute strength. Mutilate is a very powerful attack that can reach insane critical strike numbers if the right conditions are met. The 51pt talent also gives the rogue a little aid against it’s main adversary in PVP, the warrior.

Combat: Combat rogues are more like brawlers that specialize in multiple blunt and bladed weapons such as claws, maces, and swords. Combat rogues typically go for swords and use raw power over stealth and positioning. The new 51pt talent allows the rogue to dash back and forth among different targets or one single target striking with lightening speed and being immune to targeting.

Subtlety: The subtlety tree is quite possibly the most PVP oriented tree in the class as it has tons of talents that will enhance stealth and evasiveness of the class. Sub rogues can instantly teleport through the shadows behind their victims, they can also stave off a killing blow giving them the precious few seconds to turn the tide of battle. Sub rogues are basically the masters of stealth and subtrifuge, bypassing armor and other defenses to strike at the heart of their enemy.

Wowhead has a really great talent calculator where you can experiment with new builds for your Rogue.

One Response to “Rogue”

  1. I don’t know where you’re getting that the other classes need infinitely more work than rogues do. As of today (08/27), rogues are the absolute, bottom-of-the-barrel, hands down WORST PvE damage dealing class. Internal testing have shown raiding rogues to be putting out 3k DPS, which is what they currently do in BT/SWP. In other words, rogues aren’t progressing in damage dealing at all - they’re remaining stagnant while every other class is running laps around them.
