Tier 9 Set Bonuses changed in Patch 3.2 PTR
Had a little hiccup there with my host not working right (for what its worth, you and I broke nothing, it was their own internal servers or some such crap) but it seems the news is just going to keep flowing today! There is a new build deployed on the Patch 3.2 PTR and I’ll be updating news as the night progresses so stay tuned. For now, there were some changes to the Tier 9 set bonuses:
Priest
Priest T9 Healing 4P Bonus - Increases the shield from your Divine Aegis and the instant healing from your Empowered Renew by 10%.
Shaman
Shaman T9 Enhancement 4P Bonus - Increases the damage done by your Earth Shock, Flame Shock, and Frost Shock spells by 25%.
Shaman T9 Elemental 2P Bonus – Increases the duration of your Flame Shock spell by 9.0 sec.
Shaman T9 Elemental 4P Bonus – Increases the damage done by your Lava Burst spell by 20%.
Druid
Druid T9 Balance 4P Bonus – Increases the critical strike chance of your Starfire and Wrath spells by 3%.
Hunter
Hunter T9 4P Bonus - Each time you hit with a ranged attack, you have a chance to grant your pet 600 attack power for 15 sec.
Mage
Mage T9 4P Bonus – Increases the critical strike chance of your Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, Arcane Missiles, and Arcane Blast spells by 5%. Arcane Missiles added.
Paladin
Paladin T9 Tank 4P Bonus – Decreases the cooldown on your Divine Protection ability and reduces the duration of Forbearance by -30.0 sec.
Paladin T9 Holy 4P Bonus - Increases the heal over time effect from Flash of Light in conjunction with Sacred Shield by 100%.
Paladin T9 Holy Relic – Each time you cast Holy Light, you have a chance to gain 234 spell power for 15 sec. Down from 20 sec.
Warlock
Warrior
Warrior T9 Tank 2P Bonus - Decreases the cooldown on your Taunt ability by -2.0 sec.
Warrior T9 Tank 4P Bonus – Decreases the cooldown on your Shield Block ability by -10.0 sec

I know all this is subject to change right now, which is good, because I can’t say I’m impressed. First off, why is the healing priest four-piece bonus only giving benefits to talented spells? My holy priest doesn’t have Empowered Renew, as I found it just wasn’t worth it, in favour of the other talents I needed to take.
Likewise with the Enhancement Shaman ‘Static Shock’ bonus. In theory, it’s a great talent, and a nice way to do some passive dps. However, I’ve tested it, and found that the dps gained from it doesn’t make up for the global cooldowns incurred by constantly having to refresh the damn lightning shield. If they revamp it in the future, then I’ll welcome it with open arms, but right now, I don’t approve of these set bonuses benefiting subjective talents that everyone may or may not have.

Shaman static shock talent passivly increases dps by 5-9% and as for the GCD… there is usually a hole in the time you are waiting for shock/SS/MW to stack for a GCD to be fit in there. So the chance to trigger that more may suck for trying to weave in a GCD a bit more, however its a passive increase to dps… I think its a nice idea but combining T8 2 set +that would be hotter.
I’m not looking forward to dropping the 4 piece bonus from my 8.5 until I get the 4 piece of 9, personally.
I agree with Kazoo that Static Shock is a great talent, and that Telle needs to properly understand the mechanics of a priority system rather than skip talents. However, I think it is not nearly a powerful enough bonus to make up for the ~ 250 dps (in my sims) that 4 piece 8.5 generates.
If you are a holy priest, and you haven’t empowered renew, something is wrong in your head
