Sure Hunters wear mail, but you have atleast mana shield, ice block and wards. Plus Ice Armor if you spec it. And cloth vs mail is moot for any decent cleave or any magic aoe. In pvp mages are harder to focus for similar reasons, if anything I would be worried that hunters will continue to single target out dps mages, have less mana issues, and less threat issues. :s Mages have more survivability in a raid situation, and much more reliably cc.
