Latest Star Wars MMO video shows off gameplay footage
We haven’t really had a chance to see how this game will actually play. All the fancy cinematics and the pedigree of Star Wars doesn’t always equate to a good game. In this video its revealed that Bioware is giving every single NPC and player characters their own voice acting.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this concept. On the one hand, the level of immersion in this game is going to be astounding. The biggest drive in the video game industry has always been to give the cinema experience of watching an epic film on the big screen and putting us as players in the middle of it all. With this concept actually being done, that reality is really close.
On the other hand I don’t like the idea that my own character is going to have a voice that will most likely be the same exact one for every other male smuggler in the group (and yeah I plan on either being a smuggler or a bounty hunter, fuck jedi).
I don’t want to pick apart the video of the gameplay itself because frankly, this game isn’t going to be released for about another year or more of production.

I loved the Kotor games so I’ve been excited but apprehensive about this project. That said I’m more excited and less apprehensive now. Nice.
the KOTOR games were freaking awesome of this I will agree~
I don’t see dialogue-laden cut scenes as key components of gameplay.
I think gameplay and the game experience are two separate parts of a complete franchise. The wrathgate event in WoW (for example) is one of the most widely successful quest chains because it has both elements of immersive/phased gameplay as well as a detailed cutscene that helps you understand what the hell happened rather than a quick 2 second in game event followed by a wall of quest text.
I’m hoping SWTOR isn’t like the Metal Gear games where you push a button and watch 4 hours of cutscenes, but I like the idea that there’s production value going into the story as well as the gameplay itself.
All I know is it looks a LOT like Kotor, and I was surprised how much I agreed with the production team when they said the immersive feel for the star wars universe, in part created by all the dialoge, was a major component to the game. When I think back on the best Star Wars games, they gave you the most believable immersion into that galaxy, with less dancing wookies.
