Borean Tundra: Barrens Chat 3.0

The game is littered with hilarious moments, you just have to find them…or, in my case, you can create them.

So I’m gaming it up in the great horse-cow village of Taunke’la when I suddenly see some guy named Yakdruid going on in general chat about how “those misfit hippies runnin’ round here smokin that marijuwana, I tell you what in my day a good time was sittin’ on the back of a horse chewin’ cudd lookin’ at the women” (what women?!) because another guy’s name happened to be Cannibasmaximus.  It came out of nowhere, so naturally I had to participate.

Feilynn:”My grandpappy used ‘a say that same there phrase right afta sippin’ on some cow teet <spit>”

Yakdruid: “this is MY land! The SOUTH WILL RISE!”

Feilynn: “Wow.”

Yakdruid: “Well I’m ofta get me some o’ that good ol’ moonshine.”

And then someone rings in with a know-it-all statement about how Mt. Dew is called Mountain Dew because that’s what they used to call moonshine back in the bootlegging days, but he says it something like this: “You all know why they called Mt. Dew the pop Mountain Dew right?!”

And I coudln’t help myself, so I blurted…

Feilynn: “did you just say POP”

Feilynn: “POP”

…and, in true “barrens chat” fashion, all hell broke loose.  For a solid ten minutes, the rivalry between soda and pop erupted on the Borean Tundra general chat boards.  This story is a reenactment of that event (a.k.a, I got screenshots).

(above) Finally, I wrap it up by throwing a link.  There was literally 4 minutes of silence before someone dared speak a word, and when they did, they asked for the coordinates on the LW/Skinning Trainer.

As you can see, as soon as I threw the link (http://popvssoda.com:2998/) they all went to the site (such dedicated little arguers) and decided to vote on what they felt was the popvssoda Borean Tundra WoW debate.  How many logs do you think that database took after I tossed the link?

From that point on, nobody said another single word about Pop vs. Soda.  I thought this was so hilarious considering that they went on for about three more screencaps worth of arguing in general chat something so stupid as to whether or not the majority of the population in the United States (and I believe somewhere in the chat script you can see it attempts to go International to Britain) says “Pop” or “Soda.”

Seriously, people!  Have you nothing better to argue about?  It took me all of two seconds to start an all out verbal war in Barrens Chat (OOOPS, DID I SAY THAT?  I meant “Borean Chat” my bad) over a bubbly canned drink.

Priceless.

The moral of the story is, if you want to shut people up in Borean Chat, throw out a website and watch them all scatter to research who is right/wrong.  By the time they get back, they won’t remember why they left.
