Aion: Gathering Primer v2.0

gathering-iron-oreI know I did a gathering video already but like most of my first uploads, it was lacking. In this video you’ll see the basics of gathering which isn’t very complex at all truth be told. Also you’ll hear my single major complaint with Aion, gathering in flight.

Now the gathering quests really aren’t as big of a deal as I make it out to be in the video, I was a little caught off guard by them and so knee-jerked into being pissed. Imagine you are questing in a zone fighting wild animals, revolutionaries, quelling a beastial uprising, unearthing and rebuilding ancient ruins, shutting down a malevolent Abyss Gate where invading evil Balaur will pass through – and then you have to collect 8 Zucchini for a mermaid chick outside of the water because she’s tired of eating fish. WTF?

Now there ARE items and gear and such that let you fly longer for more time gathering, but until the mid-range levels it’s not realistic. People suggest finding a node closer to the ground, that’s all fine and good if it wasn’t for the long downtime waiting for your flight meter to refill and the slowness with which you gather Aether from the sky. You may not fall to your death, but its still a time sink compared to normal gathering. Also the best quality aether comes from very high up.

Guys take the time to gather!!! Can’t emphasize that enough. The Xp you gain from this really makes it worth your time. Xp from gathering you say? Oh yah. Cool right? When I saw my Xp bar go up my nipples got hard. Ive never been a big fan of gathering but like spoon says at some point your gonna need it.
So unless you want to pay over inflated prices at the Action House Do it.

I’m gonna have to toss in my own couple cents on that, I power-leveled through stuff then ended up with 3 quests to gather stuff I couldn’t gather :( it was more than a little frustrating to me as I’m a bit of a completionist so I’m made myself go back and gather anything and everything, and i had actually gained a decent chunk of xp by the time I could complete the lowest level of these quests… so yes gather what you see when you see it, it’ll pay off in the end.

I can vouch for the benefits of gathering. At the very beginning of a new toon I spend around 1/2 hour doing gathering in first section. I can level a toon to just over level 5 with out having to swing one single weapon. In the forest afterwards you will find an area next to nymph pool that have has 3 apple trees close together that also will offer fast and cheap ways to level up. Get rich faster, level faster and you will enjoy getting out of first area fast. Great game, hope it lasts.
