Loot QQ: Mantle of the Extensive Mind

Loot QQ: Mantle of the Extensive Mind

Ironically enough today’s Loot QQ is pretty big money on the AH. The Mantle of the Extensive Mind is one of those bind of equip epics that drops from Naxxramas. Now typically (at least this early in the raid game) people will equip them right away in the raid zone if it’s an upgrade, but later on down the line we’re going to be seeing tons of these on the auction house as guilds simply farm through Naxx. That is not to say guilds aren’t farming Naxx right now, but you don’t see many of these in the AH regularly. Let’s talk about the item itself though.

I’m confused by it’s stats to be honest. People like to think that because an item has MP5 on it that it’s default a healer piece of cloth (these people are stupid) but this item doesn’t have spirit. Now mind you mages and warlocks (via Fel Armor) can get some out of spirit as well but obviously massive amount of spirit benefit healers much more through talents not just the FSR (5 second rule). There’s an awful lot of haste on these as well which could easily be used by all three cloth casters in their own right. Faster heals, lowered GCD, faster nukes.

I’ll leave the debating to you guys as I don’t really play a caster in any regard. In a three way battle between a mage, warlock, and priest; who has the best argument for this item?

+52 Stamina
+53 Intellect

Improves haste rating by 44 (1.34% @ L80).
Increases spell power by 77.
Restores 18 mana per 5 sec.

  1. Well Warlocks wouldn’t take this unless they are in blues. Spirit isn’t “marginal” for locks and MP5 has no value for them at all. Not only do locks get SP from spirit, our lifetap scales directly with spirit (to the tune of 3mana/spirit per lifetap iirc). Spirit definitely isn’t a healer stat anymore and MP5 is useless to a warlock who can get more than a full set of MP5 gear in 2 GCDs of lifetap.

  2. So you’re saying that a warlock with a good amount of spirit (though not overwhelming obviously) can get more with lifetap and more spell power with fel armor. But ultimately this piece of armor has it’s stats budgeted for a healer. How about a mage?

  3. Definitely not a warlock. Load it up with some spirit instead of MP5. I would say that MP5 is still a healer-only stat. Yes, throw your sticks and rocks at me, but dps classes don’t have a use for it. Mages should be going for spirit as well.

    Priest healing item.

  4. Well to give you an idea, here’s the stat weighting at my current gear level.

1SP = 0.49crit = 0.41haste = 0.37spirit (I’m hitcapped but if i wasn’t hit comes in at 0.68) I guess to be complete, 1SP = 0.11mp5 in straight up stat for stat. If you figure in item budgets (every point of mp5 costs 6 times as much in spell power) you’re looking at an mp5 being 1% as effective as a point in SP, and spirit being 31% as effective as SP.
