Ask Spoon: Hunter Pets with Different Stats?

Got this message from Tanner the other night (or early morning I was in a substance induced sleep early last night)

Hi! I was wondering if in the new expansion, WOTLK, can pets of the same family still have better stats than each other? Look at it like this. I tamed Rak’Shiri and Encheyakee. Even though they are both cats and are both ferocity pets, can one of them be better than the other? (Damage,armor,dps,and so on)

Very good question and as far as I know right now, yes some pets will be better than others in regards to their stats. That’s something that’s been around since the beginning and I don’t believe it will be changing. If you’re a min/maxer for raids or whatnot then you might want to check out some of the many Hunter driven websites out there like BRK or Petopia, and find out which pet would fit your needs best.

Personally, I like my Hyena a lot. He’s a boring pet in that there aren’t any super high level versions of the family and the model and colors are somewhat dated. But he does have Tendon Rip which is essentially hamstring and will be such a pain in the ass for PVP that I can’t pass it up. Not to mention there’s an emotional attatchment already.
