When guilds start to split
For growing guilds or those that are just starting to play catchup to the raiding game, making the cut can become a serious issue. I’m referring to the fact that Karazahn (standard entry level raid for 70’s) is capped at 10 players however, usually you’d have 15 or 16 people willing to go and want a spot. Therein lies the problem, who gets to go and who gets to warm the bench. A lot of guild drama comes from this hurdle, people feel left out or that the core group or officers are playing favorites, they feel awkward or judged due to loot or age or anything else the paranoid mind can think up. The only way for things to be kept fair (not always successful but fair none the less) is what my guild does, raid sign-ups.
It’s first come first server and only recently have we been swapping around people on the bench so that gear can be equally distributed. Any and all drama can be easily squashed once you focus on recruiting what you need in order to have a second 10 man group active. Switching your goals from 10 man content to 25 man content as well won’t be such a major leap if you already have 20 or so people (preferably more) used to working with each other and geared appropriately for the encounters. What other methods can help alleviate the risk of guilds going south simply due to there not being enough room on the field?
