The Daily Spoon: Cabbages and Kings (and dreams of 11pt talents)

I’ve been toying around with my protection build. Honestly I feel like switching back and forth between DPS and tanking only when I run into situations where incompetent DPS happens to roll through my group somehow and we fail the achievement or the boss kill simply because people don’t know 4 years into this game to not stand in the fire. God help me if I ever roll Holy because I will not heal dumbasses that do that sort of thing.

Either way, I’ve taken Blessing of Kings (only 1pt into it) and I can’t think of a situation where that 2% more to all stats is going to make or break an encounter. I mean I can’t bitch because that extra point wouldn’t do anything else for me as is. I mean I could have taken Seal of Command or half-assed into some other talent but I’ve pretty much picked up everything I need talent wise to get the tanking job done and I put out enough DPS as a tank to make sure aggro isn’t flying around wild in the raid.

I guess I’m just secretly griping about how protection paladins still don’t have an 11pt talent in the tree that could possibly be more useful. Kings seems more like something holy paladins or ret paladins take to be more versatile. Maybe putting holy shield as the 11pt talent in the tree and replacing the 31st slot with a holy burn or something. A holy damage over time affect that causes high threat but consumes a holy shield charge. I typically have to refresh holy shield and it has 2-4 charges left anyway, that seems like wasted mana to me even when I’m pushing upwards of 80% chance to block through procs and different gear. Also having holy shield higher up in the tree will allow for retribution paladins and maybe even holy paladins to be able to tank a little given the right gear and buffing with righteous fury.

As a side note, a new wallpaper inspired by the Ashbringer comic book has been added to the official website.

  1. In the history of 11 points talents. I still say that Holy Nova (holy priest 11 point talent) was by far the worst 11 point talent. Wait…and then there was lightwell at 31 points…

I feel your pain, trust me. Just remember, it could be worse. Far worse. ;)
