The MMO Royal Rumble

The MMO Royal Rumble

It’s been a while since brought up this subject but I find myself inspired to talk about it for a moment, I wanna see your feedback maybe even get some insight. There are 4 major MMO franchises in the field right now that all bring something to the table that I believe has the potential (if not squandered) to make a big splash in the market and the genre.

I’ve never been much of an MMO player truth be told until FFXI and then WoW, so I find it somewhat interesting that I’ve not only met my wife through an MMO, found a job through an MMO, and have made lifelong friends I work with pseudo-professionally through an MMO. So here’s the scoop:

Latest Star Wars MMO video shows off gameplay footage

We haven’t really had a chance to see how this game will actually play. All the fancy cinematics and the pedigree of Star Wars doesn’t always equate to a good game. In this video its revealed that Bioware is giving every single NPC and player characters their own voice acting.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this concept. On the one hand, the level of immersion in this game is going to be astounding. The biggest drive in the video game industry has always been to give the cinema experience of watching an epic film on the big screen and putting us as players in the middle of it all. With this concept actually being done, that reality is really close.

On the other hand I don’t like the idea that my own character is going to have a voice that will most likely be the same exact one for every other male smuggler in the group (and yeah I plan on either being a smuggler or a bounty hunter, fuck jedi).

I don’t want to pick apart the video of the gameplay itself because frankly, this game isn’t going to be released for about another year or more of production.
