Remember When: Ironforge & Orgrimmar

This one isn’t so long as well, I’ve been sick and Nessaja has been busy getting to 70 while the entire battlegroup crashes.

Anyway, this little discussion is about the new and “improved” capital cities.

Shit, back in our day there were only two cities that anybody gave three craps about. Orgrimmar and Ironforge. They were the only place to find an Auction house and it was close enough to the bank and Mailbox that it was super convenient.

Hell city raids were only fun in those lag filled hellish towns. The lag my GOD, there was a living breathing MASS of players that would be at the AH all day and all night to the extreme where sometimes you couldn’t find the auctioneer. When the Horde came a knocking on our door the server would crash, it was truly a world of chaos.

That’s the kind of thing that bothers me, Shattrath is a crap city. I mean really I thought it was the bee’s knees a while ago but so help me I do everything in my power to avoid it now. It’s boring, bland, and full of carebear love everywhere. You know what I think the best cities in game are right now? Silvermoon, Orgrimmar, and Ironforge.

Silvermoon city has amazing colors, great layout, easy as hell to navigate but complex enough that you have to pay attention. There’s 2 inns, about 5 mailboxes, 2 AH’s, 2 Banks, a freaking druid trainer of all things and a direct portal to Undercity which then leads to the Zeppelin to Org or STV. But there are maybe 10 people there at any given time. That’s sad, you can tell Blizzard put a lot of work into it and the only players that might really get to enjoy it to it’s fullest are the RP cyber sex kiddies that play hide the sausage in Murder Row.

IF and Org have always been great. There’s plenty of room, plenty to access, and it’s always engaging to walk into the main squares of both cities. Hell I think it’d be a major improvement if the Zeppelin tower wasn’t located outside the city walls but right up above the Windrider guy (flight path) in Org. Where Thrall’s personal Zeppelin is if you look up. That’d be a very sweet way to get to Northrend I think and maybe cut down on the excess travel time.

Anyways you slice it, Blizzard really did a number in decreasing load times and such which is good. People can access a bank and AH from pretty much any major city in Azeroth. And all the cities have some way to connect with each other. Nobody ever goes to Darnassus still so at least that hasn’t changed. Honestly, Exodar is beautiful but fucking retardedly out of the way. It’s instanced for christ’s sake. Darnassus might as well be since you get fatigue if you try to swim there and there are no major ports of entry at all connected aside from Menethil but even that can be a 10 minute wait if you’re going by boat.

I say add more ports like the orb outside Undercity to Silvermoon, move the zepplin towers within city limits where it’s possible and makes architechtual sense. Throw down another Deeprun Tram path that will take you to Darnassus. Bring back the capital cities. We miss them.

  1. Shattrath tends to get referred to as ‘Shatt-city’ on my server, which always makes me think ‘Shit-city’ (sometimes sin-city when I have the rose coloured goggles on.)Guess the only thing I really like about shatt-city is leaving it… through one of its many doors ^_^

  2. Let’s hope that Dalaran gets better.
