The Daily Spoon: Is Blizzard making a big mistake with 2.4 class changes?

nagrand.jpgI just want to start the day off on this note; is Blizzard really making the right choices here? From druids to warlock, Blizzard is making massive changes to the game and certain classes based COMPLETELY on one aspect of the game, arena PVP. Not even battlegrounds and definitely not world PVP but the arenas. If a druid is oppressively overpowered in the 2v2 brackets then they should have their class nerfed so that they can then be less effective in 2v2, but also in raiding, solo play, world pvp, battlegrounds, etc.

Same for warlocks, a warlock with the right talent build (soul link) can pretty much be unbeatable in an arena  so Blizzard changed the way life tap works. I even reported on it and the post has a very good discussion brewing as a result. But with these changes now we have drain tanking and raid viability taking a hit, especially solo play like leveling or grinding questing and farming.

Also just to be clear, because a class has been overpowered for X amount of time doesn’t mean they deserve to be nerfed (not brought in line, as changes based 100% on PVP and still effect PVE is NOT balance, it’s a nerf) for X amount of time as a kind of punishment. I mean come on think about it, “Here Timmy since I made the mistake of giving you $5 dollars a day as allowance you need to now do twice the work for the same $5. I know you didn’t do anything wrong and you had no idea I was overpaying you but now you need to be punished, have fun mowing the lawn.”

There has to be a more constructive way to deal with all of this such as buffing other classes or changing the mechanics of arena play. Even going so far as to provide stock equipment and locking out certain abilities or adding mobs to the arena ring like in the real gladiatorial battles of history.  Seriously wouldn’t that just be sick? You enter the Circle of Blood in Blade’s Edge Mountains and out of one of the many grates and doorways in the area come rushing huge tigers or raptors native to the zone. Now you have your opponents and the beasts to deal with.

I just can’t begin to understand why it is that Blizzard continues to ignore some simple fixes that would re-balance things in the PVP world as right now the raiding aspect of the game is doing very well on its own.  Hell I STILL don’t have any enhancement shaman gear in the end game what so ever that isn’t leather or 2nd hand hunter loot.

What do you think should be focussed on more? I mean is WoW turning into an eSport game? Should we just make arena and BG only servers where you just log in and start fighting? Is that even Warcraft anymore?
