Ganking on a PVP realm.

warcraft_twincruiser010c.jpgIt’s happened to all of us. Hell it happened to me twice the other day. You just learn to deal with it. Even when you’re level 70 and have good raiding gear, you’re subject to being ganked and griefed. Hell, the other day I stomped some jerkoffs that were standing just out of guard range (where the demons spawn) in the Sunwell Isle and nuking down Alliance players that were turning in quests with the blacksmithing NPC that will soon be selling the new badge gear.

Why do people do it? I can’t really label them, they’re having fun in their own way. I’ve done too. I’ve never squatted on a location and pretty much ruined another player’s night. I don’t get the joy in that. I mean fine maybe it’s a cry for attention because these people lack it at home or in their romantic involvements. Who’s to say. But as far as Blizzard is concerned, this is the normal course of life on a PVP server; and I agree. And people say there’s no WAR in Warcraft, they’re just lazy.

There’s a PvP resolution to being camped, get some friends, use the chat channels to ask for help, or find a higher level character nearby to beg for assistance. It really isn’t the job of support or design to hold your hand all the time though, which happens quite a lot I think you’ll agree, but you’ve created a character on a realm that is based around being able to kill other players. It isn’t always going to be fair, and in fact the rules of war are based around attacking when the odds are in your favor. Now how that applies to an online game is obviously not quite as clear, but the fact remains that while it may not be honorable to attack a weaker target, it’s certainly easier. (src)

  1. BS like what you describe is exactly why I gave up the toon I made on a PVP server where a friend is. :)

Some random rogue ganked me repeatedly for no reason whatever other than to prove that his 20 level advantage made him tougher than me. Um. Yeah. Gee golly whiz, you win.

I nuked the alt about an hour later after I got back to my bank so I could sell all my junk and give the money to my friends that were still there. :)

I suppose I could have called for help, but I turn off the generic channels because the chatter on them is usually so moronic it makes me want to rip my eyes out of my head. None of my friends were on — that much I knew.

I suppose I can understand kicking hell out of an opposing faction player, but denying them access to game content out of spite is pathetic. :)

Anyway, sorry, sore point — I liked that character! ^_^

  2. One last point — nuking people doing turn ins on Quel’Danas doesn’t make any sense. It slows down the realm’s progression as a whole.

So for a tiny bit of ePeen they deny themselves by slowing down the progression. Good thinking there. :)
