A love affair with Alterac Valley

AV has been one of the most celebrated battlegrounds since it’s conception so many years ago. Ask any of us veterans about how you could spend 4 hours or more in the most epic and insane battles with cavalry charges, air strikes, giant elemental lords, and infantry rushes. The down side, it took 4 hours and was the most freaking unbelievable chore. Still though, the grand scale of the map and the battleground itself has saved a spot in the hearts of many players for a long time, good news is that Blizzard is going to use the same “feel” of AV in their next battleground which should be coming after patch 3.1! I bet my money that the new BG is located in Azshara, come on AZSHARA! THE FORLORNE RIDGE, THE AZSHARA CRATER! It’d be a great lead in for the Maelstrom…

Alterac Valley Tokens for “Concerted Efforts” and “For Great Honor” repeatable quests
The repeatable quests “Concerted Efforts” (Alliance) and “For Great Honor” (Horde) will require the Alterac Valley token again in 3.1. [...] On the PTR the quest rewards 1241 honor at the moment. (Source)

Alterac Valley win ratio
Last time I checked the battles in Alterac Valley come out very close to 50-50 win ratios. This can differ a bit by battlegroup but I haven’t heard of any horrendous numbers as players often bring up. (Source)

Bringing back “old school” Alterac Valley
There are no plans to bring back “old school” Alterac Valley. We’ve discussed this several times before and are not entertained by the idea. As fun as it was to log out for the night in the middle of an Alterac Valley match with no end in sight, only to join the queue the next day and jump into the same game, we favor battlegrounds that end. New WotLK Battleground to be AV-Like

A new battleground is in the works for Wrath of the Lich King. We feel this may provide the best compromise for those who like Alterac Valley but miss it’s original iteration. We’ll be providing more information some time after 3.1 is released. (Source)

i think they need to reward people for defending more and encourage capping the objectives more to get AV back to its glory and grandeur. Maybe making the NPCs have insane health and 1-shot damage, but have both reduced by taking each tower. It would make the game take longer, which will make some of the old school guys happy about the epic battle, while enforcing the objectives and giving the game a direct sequence that it completely lacks now. This would make the game less of a zerg fest and more about getting the objectives and fighting the opposing faction. As AV stands now the only pvp you actually run into is at the bases and it more like slowing the waves of offense than actually defending your keep.

Whoa, weird, I was just re-reading about Azshara Crater today. Here’s hoping they bring it in (I feel bad for the potential battleground, just sitting there, all sad and unused).

I totally agree with Malhoof. I completely gave up even trying AV, because it’s absolutely impossible to try and organize 40 people into pulling off an effectively strategy, and I hate playing a BG where I lack any ability to do something effective.
