I have another tanking related question in WoTLK for you!

My question…in BC, tanks were pretty much required to have certain base stats before a guild or group would even consider taking them into the entry level raid, Karazhan. Has this p[ractice continued in WoTLK, and if so, what are the base stats the community is asking for?

I noticed a considerable loss of defense with the last patch, going from 512 down to 472 for no apparant reason, and I’d like to know ahead of time if I need to start looking for +defense gear as I level before I try and get into any Wrath raids.

BILL! Ok buddy here’s what I got so far, long question short answer hehe. Right now I’m not exactly 100% sure on the numbers and I don’t think anybody really has some straight solid unarguable ones at that. Entry level raiding in Wrath of the Lich King (Naxxramas) is going to be… odd.

First of all there’s the 10-man and the 25-man. Both of those raids are going to require different values and the encounters are going to be different in regards to what the boss will do for damage be it spell or physical or whatever.

Second, Blizzard dramatically changed the tanking game with Wrath. All tanks (warriors, paladins, druids, and death knights) have all of their threat generating spells and abilities built into the core of the class. Threat’s supposed to scale with the amount of damage you do and a lot of the gear has STR on it to increase your output. As far as defensive stats like you mentioned, there’s PLENTY enough on the level 80 quest rewards and dungeons. Safe to say you should be playing it by ear and customizing to the level of raid you’re hitting.

Blizzard has made the raiding game very friendly with WotLK but common sense tells me that you’re pretty much ready to go if you’re spec’d prot (or bear feral) or took the mitigation/tanking talents for Death Knights and rocking all blues and some heroic epics.  Your best bet would be to browse these two forums. I could just quote them all day left and right but just showing you the source is going to be an infinitly better resource.

Great place with TOO much information sometimes. Your best bet is to find the instance feedback post and start browsing the data feeds people post. You’ll have to filter through a lot of the excess but it’s got a lot of the preliminary information that will help build an idea of what you’ll need as far as theorycrafting goes.
