So why exactly should you keep your crafting profession? There are a lot of alchemists, enchanters and the likes out there (tailors especially) that don’t seem be getting what they hoped from their profession. Most crafted gear from blacksmithing (armor and weapons) is starting to be replaced by arena gear and raid loot. As well there isn’t much in the way for enchanters (due to the ridiculous cost to level it)  and alchemists.

I’m not sure what the future holds but there are some great ideas as to how some of the consumable professions (alchemy & enchanting mostly) are going to be revamped. Drysc had this to say about it, and since I’m pretty sure he’s seen the new expansion from start to soon finish, I’ll take his word.

Probably not a very convincing reason at the moment. Personally I might level enchanting now before the expansion just because it’s so expensive to do that you’re going to still have time to make up your losses. Buuuuuuuuut… you may be kicking yourself after you see what Alchemy has going for it in the next expansion, or maybe enchanting will be more enticing for you, hard to say.

Hrm…. I would say at least wait until you know what’s coming, but that’s just me. (src)

An idea just to kind of plant the seed in your head for enchanters, was the opportunity to sell their enchants on the AH via scrolls or objects imbued with the enchant. Obviously Blizzard wants people to meet together in game and in central cities and hubs to socialize and sell their goods/enchants. But have you SEEN Trade Channel on your server lately? Have you walked through Orgrimmar or Ironforge? You think all those people are there to buy enchants? I don’t know, it seems like a great idea and would save me and many others the hassle of spamming trade for an enchanter who’s not online, or not in the channel.
