Blacksmithing Epic Weapons in Wrath of the Lich King
There will not be a Stormherald type weapon “high level crafter only”. There are however a fair number of epic crafted BoE weapons that smiths will be able to make in LK.
We didn’t like the vast number of people who felt they were required to be Blacksmiths in order to get a good weapon. Players should choose their trade skills based on what they enjoy, not what they feel they must do. (src)
That was something I flat out didn’t like about Burning Crusade. The hands down best choice for my enhancement shaman for a long time as far as weapons goes was to main hand the Dragonstrike mace (before they made it a 1H weapon) and having to grind up through the sick blacksmithing for just one item was a little… annoying.

Sure, you had one reason to level BS before, but now you have none. Why become a BS when you can buy whatever BS item(s) you need?

Because BS can put a socket into there own Gloves and Bracers This is not something They just give out like the one for the belt it. So. They can make a total of 3 gems spots now. 2 for themselves and 1 for everyone.

Why be a blacksmith? Well why be a tailor? Probably because you can sell epic weapon on the AH for a fucking ton of gold, same for the 20 slot bags. It’s a pain in the ass to have to track down a blacksmith on the server, hope he’s online, hope he’s not busy, then hope the mats aren’t too expensive.
Or be like enchanters and put the mats on the Ah then offer to craft anything for free if they bring mats.
Crafting isn’t JUST for you, that’s why they call it crafting. You’re part of the economy, if that’s not your thing then just take mining and skinning or something. I don’t really see what the big deal is, the sockets are great, BOP armor kits from leatherworkers are sweet too, the shoulder inscriptions I can make as a scribe are nice too otherwise the entire professions is pretty much for other’s benefit.
There will be BOP epics that smiths can make in the future (I can only assume based on what Blizzard has said) but they won’t be this OMFG THE BEST kind of item like the Stormherald (noobherald) used to be.
