Wrath of the Lich King: Return to the Battle of Undercity
I was thinking that with all this scourge stuff going on and an official introduction of Grand Apothecary Putress, it’s be a great time to show you all again what the Battle for Undercity is. There is a lot going on now even if you can’t see it. Blizzard is doing an incredible job shaping this world and making the game grow. As an MMO it will grow and mature and possibly even change completely between now and this time next year, but it’s Blizzard’s job to create worlds. They’re suppose to make this a near seamless transition and as you read on you’ll see just how good a job they’re doing of it all.
Be for warned though, there are spoilers ahead, but you’ll thank me when it’s over.
This is great turning point in the game with Wrath of the Lich King.
This is when WAR is declared between the Horde and the Alliance.
First, check out my original post on the subject complete with GREAT videos taken of the entire event as it unfolded on the Beta. EVERYBODY will be able to take part in this event as it is a quest with both Horde and Alliance versions.

- Wrath of the Lich King: The Battle for Undercity (Alliance Version)
To summarize:
Alliance and Horde forces in the Dragonblight of Northrend stage a battle at the Wrath Gate; a back door so to speak for Icecrown Citadel where Arthas resides. They successfully battle a massive contingent of the Scourge army as well as a force of Vrykul warriors. The leaders of the allied Horde and Alliance armies are Highlord Bolvar of Stormwind and Saurfang the Younger (wearing his father’s battle armor) from Orgrimmar.
Eventually the Lich King Arthas is drawn out of the fortress and kills Saurfang the Younger, taking his soul into the dreadblade Frostmourne. Just as a massive bloodthirsty battle is about to erupt between Arthas and the forces of the Horde and Alliance, Grand Apothecary Putress of the Forsaken shows up and begins to attack EVERYBODY. The was apparently a military coup, an uprising in the Undercity! Sylvannas Windrunner and hundreds of Forsaken citizens flee Undercity to Orgrimmar as the Dreadlord Varimathras and Putress take over the city and begin to summon in countless demons of the Burnign Legion as well as convert any living thing into mindless undead.
The cure that you are seeing as part of current quests Putress has developed is exactly the thing that will kill the Scourge AND the living in one shot. With reports coming from Northrend saying that the Forsaken have killed one of the most beloved heroes of the Alliance, King Wrynn of Stormwind proceeds to Undercity to find out basically what the fuck is going on and to seek vengeance.
If you’re Horde, you rally in Orgrimmar to find the entire city is on lockdown under martial law! There are hundreds of Forsaken refugees and Sylvannas herself in Thrall’s chambers trying to make sense of the chaos and to fix things before all out anarchy spreads.
I’ll let you guys watch the videos I linked above for the outcome, but safe to say there will be no more peace on Azeroth. The days of fighting for flags and resources are over. All out WAR is on the horizon.
Here is the video that sparked everything, here is your cutscene:

I guarantee you that Saurfang the Younger will be back as a raid boss in Icecrown Citadel, probably as an old school-style death knight (Orc soul in a human corpse), seeing as how Arthas personally killed him and stole his soul. I doubt we’ll see Bolvar again though, since he was killed by the Forsaken and his soul was never taken by Frostmourne.
