Your Guide to the new Icecrown 5man Dungeons
Jaina got a makeover...
It’s been a little while since we had a true attunement style quest to go through before end game content was accessible but that doesn’t mean that this new quest is a bad thing. I like attunement quests as long as they’re reasonable, in this case it really is a must due to the lore involved in the new dungeons and the need to maintain a certain continuity to the story.
ONE
The Frozen Halls are made up of three dungeons; The Forge of Souls, The Pit of Saron, and finally the Halls of Reflection. You must do them initially in that order. The Horde and Alliance essentially follow the exact same path with the only variant being Jaina for the Alliance and Sylvannas for the Horde. You can choose to start by accepting a quest from Dalaran (the NPC Apprentice Nelphi wanders around the city and is easily spotted by the yellow ! on your map). You can just go straight to the dungeons and find your faction guide there.
TWO
Jaina or Sylvannas will be right inside the Forge of Souls. Talk with her, and you’ll get the next quest Echoes of Tortured Souls which requires you to clear the forge instance which means killing both bosses (duh). As soon as you mop up the demented metroid looking boss your faction NPC Jaina or Sylvannas will pop up. Turn in the completed quest and enter the portal that leads to the next instance and get the next quest, The Pit of Saron.
THREE
Enter the portal (or enter the instance later on) and talk to Jaina/Sylvannas to turn in the quest. She’ll then give you the next quest in the chain The Path to the Citadel. Going through the Pit you’ll have to free 15 enslaved NPCs and then obviously kill all the bosses, but this time there’s a slight twist. After the first boss your NPC lady will show up and give you another quest Deliverance from the Pit so get that and then kill the final boss, Scourgelord Tyrannus.
Rinse and repeat the same scenario you did at first with speaking to Jaina/Sylvannas and moving on to the next dungeon in this case, the last. Once you turn in that quest you’re attuned to all 3 dungeons hurray! You will now get a final quest involved Frostmourne!
FOUR
Once in the Halls of Reflection you fight a bunch of trash waves, the twin bosses Falric and Marwyn (which were Arthas’ captains and the two guys in the famous cinematic where he kills his father). Do a little loregasming around Frostmourne and complete/accept new quests from jaine/Sylvannas and then finish the rest of the instance. Turn in the final link in the chain for some badges (one time only) and you’re done, congratulations!
This is not really a guide… Its more off a timeline of events. Nameing something a guide implies there will be detailed information, not a summary. Just my humble opinion.
Well, I’m providing the steps required in order to progress through the instances and unlock them in their order. In subsequent posts as well I’m going over more of a How To on the bosses and some of the trash. If you want detailed information going over every last little thing you might want to try you know, playing the game. Otherwise all you’re getting from me is a “timeline” and “summary” of how I progressed through the dungeons…

thanks for this introduction Spooner. I’ve just come back from a 6 month break and wondering if my gear is up to these new 5-mans? i’m in mostly ilvl200 gear from heroics and putting out around 2.2k dps as a sv hunter (bit more with buffs added). Are there heroic and non-heroic versions of the new content? Thanks for reading.
yep the 5mans have heroic and normal as usual. with ilvl200’s from naxx and the likes you should be perfectly fine if not at least a little under the curve. rock out some random heroics and get back into the swing of things and you’ll be right as rain
Hey i can’t get into halls of reflection. it says i have to finish deliverance from the pit first but i can’t seem to find where to pick the quest up from. i didn’t see any quests in pit of saron. really having trouble with this one. any advice
yeah should be a quest giver in dalaran but that’s just the breadrcrumb. when you first enter Forge of Souls you speak to jaina/Sylvannas and that starts the whole chain. At the beginning and end of EACH dungeon is going to be a quest accept/turn-in from the ladies.
Hi, thank you for the detailed steps for this line of quests. I do have problem of completing the “Echoes of Tortured Souls”. At the end of the dungeon I did not meet Sylvannas and now I got into the ICC and tried to talk to Sylvannas, but there is no yellow “?” above her head and ….
Any help would be appreciated.
