Star Trek Online: Ground Combat Video
Alright, let me be the first to admit that when STO talked a lot about ground combat I was worried. I loved the space battles so much in Star Trek I was worried STO might get it wrong with putting to much focus on ground combat. Simply put, I was wrong. Check out this ground combat video and I dare you to not get a little excited for this game even if you aren’t a fan.
I have to say it looks great. From the pulse riffles to the beam phasers the ground combat looks exciting and well done. They even show the disintegration aspect of some of the weapons! It brings back the feel when I first played Anarchy Online. My hype level has jumped ten fold after this video. What is your take?

My take, for what it’s worth, as a player in the open beta, the headstart weekend, and in live, is that when anyone asks me how STO plays, if there are any bugs, glitches, you know the quality at launch and my general impression, ground combat is THE issue. It’s laggy. You yo-yo a lot not just in combat but in most ground situations. The space play is beautiful, the ground play is a 180 degree difference though. They really either need to streamline the servers or add more capacity because every time I leave my ship I prepare for a trying experience. The basics are fine, as seen in that video, however it is by FAR the least polished, least smooth aspect of the game atm.
Sorry but as a player in my opinion it has gotten way better, Ground combat is nothing but fun in my book, nothing disrupting a klingon to a red nothing, compared to Open Beta, Early release, thanks to the recently added patch its much more better to play, my only gripe is the server stability or lack of, but this isnt a major problem all the time for me at least, most of the time the server is fine, but server needs to be able to handle the peak hours thats when shit goes crazy.
had the same issues with both LOTRO and Fallen Earth which I still play and since then they’ve fixed all server issues, STO game is still in its infancy and needs time to grow more.
The use of weapons and abilities looks similar to that of the Matrix online. And I do believe that primary guns in combat leaves something to be desired. it doesn’t have the same diversity as that of middle age-like close combat. Like that of the Matrix Online, getting a new weapon that looked unique was rare and it got old very soon. All the weapons demonstrated in the close combat trailer I have already seen in Star Trek Elite for games and other like it. It is not new or exciting.
That being said, i have to disagree with you. I think that if i were to play this game, i would feel like i’m playing a multiplayer, third person Star Trek Elite force.
