Diablo 3’s missing 5th Class…

tyreal conceptWell we have yet to be told what the final class is but for what it’s worth an idea came to me this afternoon I wanted to put down to written (typed?) word in the hopes that maybe somebody at Blizzard will take note. Though I really fucking doubt anybody from Blizzard reads this website.

Anyway, so we have the following classes:

  • Monk – Bare-fisted melee badass with low health and light armor yet really fast attacks and high evasion.
  • Barbarian – Typical master of arms using great armor and massive weapons just downright tearing everything apart.
  • Witch Doctor – This is the Necromancer replacement, looks and feels and plays a lot like the original Necromancer with minions and all.
  • Sorcerer – Standard fare spellcaster magus that shoots magic missiles into the darkness, or so I hear.

There’s still one more class left and it’s been speculated to be many different things. I mean, they can bring back the Paladin type or even a Cleric class. That would make sense seeing as how we’re fighting the demons of hell, having a holy fighter would be pretty keen and make the most sense. Though I have my heart set on something a little different.

I’d like to see a gunslinger. I figure that technology and science in the form of alchemy and metallurgy should be making it’s first little appearances in the world of Sanctuary. Adventurers and treasure hunters wielding explosive powders and potions, guns, and deadly traps (spike launching claymore mine sounds fucking awesome) as they clear out the battlefield trying to establish the art of science in a world of the arcane.

Hell you want to really see some innovation, let’s mix the two. Divine warriors elevating humanity above the corruption of The Three (the lords of the burning hells had their own religion in Sanctuary for recruitment purposes) and even that of the oppressive control of the followers of the Prophet (think of it as heaven’s little recruitment stand in Sanctuary once led malevolently by Inarius – a rogue angel – under the guise of the Prophet). Something boosting humanity as the true rules of the world and pushing science and rationality over ghost stories and such heavy reliance on magic and the mage guilds.

If none of this makes any sense then I suggest you read the Diablo: Sin War Trilogy because it’s fucking amazing. Please no comments saying “omg Richard Knaak elitist bullshit elitist bullshit I write better than him piss piss moan groan fuck” I don’t get why people hate him so much. Of all the complainers and crybabies I have yet to see one of them make a career as successfully out of their writing as Mr. Knaak has out of his. He may not be the best in the business but he’s got a lot more to show for his effort than a bunch of shit talking on the internet.

Offhand, i’d say some sort or ranged non-caster class. Like Spooner said, a gunslinger would be awesome, and, looking at the assassin and all her traps, not unrealistic. Of course the standard Ranger type might be more in line with what they allready have now, but a daring breakaway from what we expect would be nice. *Dreams of being able to fire dual SMG’s into a mob of demons*
