Death Knights are getting a Unique Flying Mount
I love this very much but I don’t really understand the reasoning behind it. I hope it does indeed make it into the live game though as much as the warlocks and paladins will be drowning in emo-mascara stained tears. Death Knights apparently will be getting a unique flying mount.
Currently the place holder mount seems to be a skeletal gryphon which looks really hokey and kind of out of place with the whole Death Knight feel. I can only presume that this addition is around to make Death Knights as a class feel a little more unique and epic since they are the first hero class.

Looking at them in general it’s not exactly a class for the new beginners and with the rune and runic power system for energy, I doubt very many Death Knights will be worth their weight in gold when the original 8 classes are fleshed out at level 80.
Only time will tell.

I gotta say, as a pally I will be a bit disappointed. It’s not “game-definingly awful” but it does suck a lil bit. Part of being a warlock / pally is the unique mounts you have access to. Ok, I’ll give you the level 30 mount is no challenge at all and I believe it should be revamped to require riding and even the 80 gold to buy the skill, but how cool would it be to see a warlock riding some winged demon or a pally-centric flying mount? As far as I’m concerned. I dont need to be an elitist, give everyone class specific mounts thats fine. But a skeleton gryphon? … lame is the first word that comes to mind.

I kind of agree with you. As much as I would like to have a little more in the way of catching up to everybody else when WotLK comes out I fear this would cause a lot of hate for death knights.
I mean I know there are little bitches waiting to gank as many death knights as possible in the EPL when wotlk goes live, but this would just fuel that fire. class specific land mounts for classes that merit it makes more sense to me.
Giving every class their own summoned mount is stupid, giving every class their own unique flying mount as well is stupid. It’s just one of those things where you decide “ok, paladins can summon a land mount. that’s another + to rolling a paladin over another class” it’s helping to keep things different so we aren’t all one big gray blob where every class has stuns, heals, plate armor, ranged casting, melee abilities… you get where I was going with that.
Though you know what, looking at it again it might NOT be Death Knight specific. Who knows.

Not Death Knight specific?
(It says on the item “Classes: Death Knight”.)
Silly goose.
