Class Change Wraup & Discussion for Wrath of the Lich King Beta 9014
Alright folks it’s the 1st of the month and we’re breaking into October with quite a few changes.
I’m by no means an expert at all these classes but I’m going to give my impressions and I hope you folks will give yours too.
Death Knights: They got some damage buffs for sure and some complete redesigns for tanking.Blood’s 51pt talent bothers me a lot, Blood used to be the tree I wanted to take all the way, but the more they change it the worse off it gets for me. It doesn’t have any of the fun factor abilities that the other trees have in the slightest. Pretty much all of blood’s unique talent abilities are base skills of the class itself.
Overall the class is doing a lot of damage on par with other DPSers and their PVP viability is without question especially Unholy. I’d venture to say even a little too powerful, so I don’t want a nerf, I just want other classes buffed.
Druids: The class is looking really solid now. You;d have to really convince me otherwise. Bear tanks got a 1% nerf to the amount of damage they receive and mangle got seriously buffed. honestly, Druids are the only class I really don’t take shit from when it comes to complaints. They had it the WORST in vanilla WoW. Druids used to be a joke, now they’re possibly the most versatile class in the game. Moonkin druids are doing SICK damage in PVP and PVE, Feral druids are pretty much at the level of rogues if they’re in cat form and can tank like a warrior in bear, resto druids had to be nerfed some in their heals due to some spells being OP (lifebloom) but still are amazing healers. Honestly if you’re one of those people that want to try everything int he game, all 31 flavors, roll a druid.
Hunters: Where to begin. It surprises me to see Hunters still complaining right now. Aimed shot is instant cast. Aspect of the Beast now grants 10% attack power too. Freezing Arrow, a new “black arrow” spell that increases dmg done to the target by 15% while it’s slowed. They can tame Corehounds. Survivability spec Hunters are going to be fucking impossible to kill, Marks hunters will be raiding again and doing insane damage, and they can disarm at 35 yards now. You can auto shoot while chanelleing volley, I mean do I need to go on?
Mages: Got buffed. All 3 trees have something nice to offer now. Evocate is on a shorter cooldown. There’s Frostfire bolt which means no more bullshit with trying to farm water elementals as a frost mage or similar problems. Their AOE damage is second to none and their single target damage is slowly getting buffed to where it needs to be. Frostbite is now going to be a T1 frost talent which can proc off frostfire bolt. I mean, all the nice tools mages need are easier to access now. I can still say with a straight face they need a lot of work but it’s overall an improvement from BC.
Paladins: Can go to hell. I love you Paladins. I have a 68 Pally I just can’t bring myself to level at all anymore. Maybe when 3.0.2 comes out. Ret paladins are 2 shotting people easily with the freaking rediculous burst damage. Prot paladins are capable of tanking damn near anything now. Holy paladins are busting out 8k heals without breaking a sweat and can actually AOE heal now somewhat. Yeah Paladins are fine.
Priests: As always need work but everything is coming along nicely. Shadow is going to be putting out some respectable damage, holy has been brought to it’s healing king level it should always be, and discipline now has some real viability in the PVE world. Discipline priests also are going to make some really really strong healers too. They still suffer from some of the same issues in burning crusade but there’s a lot more mana efficiency now.
Rogues: Assassination is solid, it’s more than solid, it’s sexy. Sub is still powerful but I don’t forsee anybody being top DPS Mr. Badass as a sub rogue in a raid, still it’s viable and if that’s your choice, you won’t be too far behind. Combat needs help obviously but I think it was shifted more to a possible PVP viable spec. 99% of rogues I see now are sub rogues. That’s not right. I don’t have much more to say on this class or these changes because it looks like they’re getting buffs but rogues are never happy in the first place lol.
Shaman: Ok I don’t get it. I really don’t. Elemental needed buffs, they got them, everybody seems a little happier now. Enhancement got nerfed with this build. My haste was cut 5%, my chance to hit was cut 3% (so I better see fucking LOADS of hit raitng on mail or it’s back to pissing off rogues and taking their leather), Stormstrike got nerfed or just brought back to it’s boring self because it doesn’t work for frost and fire damage anymore, that means less synergy with the new lava lash or the new lava burst spells. WTF Blizzard? This is retarded.
Maelstrom weapon got buffed, but maybe not. It just got changed from crit = 100% chance to apply the affect to 15% chance on hit to cause the affect. So in PVp with resilence we’re not completely garbage right now to get this proc, but with a lower chance to hit overall now we have to itemize like maniacs to possibly keep the buff going. The totems are still cluttered to hell and need to be reworked. Stoneclaw is still going to be useless and NEVER dropped in PVP or arena in it’s current form. I mean are these guys serious? I can see they listen to the players with the maelstrom change but then they take 2 steps backwards by doing all that other stupid shit.
Rest assured that resto shaman are still freaking awesome. They got great healing buffs, active healing spells that buff critical heals, heals over time, a healing buff for your weapon that can proc more heals. Earth shield got improved. They’re solid.
Warlocks: I wish I knew more. Hell my wife is a warlock. I’m hard pressed to comment to be honest because I’m not too keen on all the different changes and what they will mean. Affliciton is going to be an awesome leveling spec as usual, demonology seems to have more fun factors added, and destruction’s going to kick out some silly damage and the 51pt talent can break through a pally bubble.
Warriors: Prot warriors can DPS now. Maybe not in a raid but they can level, quest, and PVP as a protection warrior which is pretty damn sweet for warriors that main tank for their group but still want to quest and what not as well. Fury just flat out looks cool now, has some more PVP viability than before, and still will be the PVE DPS tree. Arms is still the king of PVP and now has more tools in there to proove it. Though I will say that their DPS in a raid has been brought up it won’t ever be a real competitor for DW.

Aspect of the Beast grants 10% increase to melee attack power. Not nearly as good.

I have to assume that’s a typo like all the other typos they changes where “increases attack power” counts as ranged and melee.

If you want my full view on the rogue changes, just go to the page made for it. Assassination and Sub are very solid, and there’s little need to change either tree. Yes, any rogue serious about PvP WILL be Sub, and there’s little they can do to change that, and honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it. Sub’s always been the PvP tree, and it always will be. The major exception is Shadow Dance - it completely sucks as it is right now, mostly because of the major problem with hotkeys (more on that on the rogue change page).
Combat still needs polish, particularly with Lightning Reflexes and Murder Spree. Murder Spree is pathetic right now - it’s been mathematically proven that MS is not much better than autoattacking. It needs an additional damage component, similar to Mutilate.

If that is a typo on Aspect of the Beast, it’s one that has persisted for several builds (before being removed and reimplemented). Also I doubt they would give us another aspect that adds RAP when we already have Aspect of the Hawk.

as for druids (balance in particular) there is too much bloat causing builds to only have enough points to take the required talents and not being able to get the new/fun talents. I agree the dps is solid but there is less fun factor. Blizz promised to get away from the cookie cutter specs given your situation, but with balance as it stands you either do the competitive dps or you enjoy the new talents. Can’t do both as of now.
