Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

Borderlands is the type of game where there is so much silly shit and good writing that you wonder how ridiculous it’ll get. You all know I like it and with good reason, it’s a good game. Their first batch of downloadable content is due to come out tomorrow for the consoles and hopefully sometime this fucking year for us PC gamers. That right there is about the only complaint I have with the game, PC gamers as always are getting shit all over which is double ironic because the FPS genre and the RPG genre started on the goddamn PC not on a fucking console.

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, I love Gearbox

I love Gearbox, and I love Borderlands. Good fun even if the PC versions are downright getting the whole ass to mouth treatment with multi-player. I know for a fact that on the consoles, Borderlands is destroying right now.

Here’s a direct quote posted by one of the official forum mods. You won’t see this kind of badassery on the Blizzard forums that’s for damn sure. Sometimes I really wish some of the devs would just hop on the forums and downright fucking destroy some of the little kiddies that think the internet is a free license to be a complete asshole.

The last thread was a real abortion, so let’s try this again. This is not the place to have console wars, and if you post anything that could remotely be construed as one in this thread I’ll issue you a temp ban. Please talk about the DLC, what you think might be in it, what you hope might be in it. Refrain from platform discussion entirely.

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is the new DLC coming out on the 24th of November, so in about 14 days. Now there’s been speculation – but I can’t find a link anywhere saying so – that the PC version of the DLC will be out 2 days after the consoles get it.

Borderlands breaks the mold for the most fun I’ve had all year.

I read this on Penny Arcade over the weekend:

If you had no externalities to manage – that is to say, if you were not a father of two, for whom sleep is a rare thing, and precious – I don’t know what could make you stop playing Borderlands. I honestly don’t know how you could sever the thick roots that seem to grow out of the screen and claim the body, whose novel barbs anesthetize and then pierce the meninges, seizing control.

I swear the guy is fucking watching me as the only reason I am even posting right now and not playing Borderlands is because I missed you bastards and I need to feel even slightly productive on a daily basis.

Borderlands.

Think Diablo 2 meets WoW meets Call of Duty in a backwater hick alien planet. You take quests, you level up, you have talents, you have blue weapons, epic weapons, shields, special weapon enchants to augment your class skills. Yeah this is some pretty awesome shit right here. And the writing for the game (especially the voice acting) is downright legendary.

Scooter has to be my favorite fucking character in the Borderlands universe. I dearly hope he’s in the sequel (and so help me there better be if not at least some expansion downloadable content).

Borderlands Pre-Game Video Blowout!

Monsters named Skaggs and midgets with shotguns. Yup.

I just want to help spread the word about Borderlands. I am going to buy this game day 1 and play it until my fucking eyes bleed out and my WASD keys fuse together in a gelatinous mass of plastic and flesh.

I’ve mentioned Borderlands a few times here ont he site and many times on the For the Lore podcast. The gameplay multiplayer feel is a lot like Diablo 2 only in that you can bring your offline character to the online world and buddy up on the fly, as well the game checks for more players and adds more mobs and harder ones at that as well as better loot the more players are active on your team.

You get your own vehicle that you can build, something around the billion count for random weapons which pretty much blows the fuck away from any loot you get in any other MMORPG. To top it all off it has a pretty decent story and looks downright beautiful. Check out the opening cinematic and see for yourself. I plan on making a Hunter (Mordechai class) and spec him (yes you get levels and talent points) to be very heavy with sniping and knife play. After you watch the video, check out GT’s video gameplay blowout! I’ll put a few here too for good measure.
