Let’s go down the list right quick since I know a lot of people are asking about this stuff. Here’s what we have so far regarding professions in WotLK. I will cover the most vague or undeveloped professions in this post and the more fleshed out professions in following posts.

Alchemy: There isn’t jack. It’s just one of the things not available yet in the Alpha along many others.

Blacksmithing: One can imagine there will be tons of new things to do with Blacksmithing since Mining has such a varied set of development so far. However the only thing for Blacksmiths right now is this. Socket One-Handed Weapon - Permanently adds a socket to a one-handed weapon.

Engineering: Nothing so far on Engineering folks, I’m sorry.

Tailoring: Nothing here either. There is a new type of cloth obviously Frostweave but nothing we can see as far as new patterns and such. However I am led to speculate that they will keep up with the BOE bags concept they introduced in Burning Crusade. As well it wouldn’t surprise me to see us crafting 20 slot bags as the norm and having 22-24 slot bags as the more high end.

Skinning: Funny. All the gathering professions seem to be getting a combat ability added to them. I like this sudden turn of events.  Scalp (Rank 1) Requires: Skinning Knife; Attempts to skin the target alive, causing them to bleed for 72 damage over 6 sec.

Cooking: There aren’t any listed recipies however; there seem to be 25 new cooking recipes planned, 12 of which use fishing. Names for these are still placeholders at the moment.

Jewelcrafting: There is no information yet on any new gems or jewelcrafting.

Inscription: Ahh here is the big one people are going nuts over. I am VERY intrigued at how this is working.

• Spell description for Inscription refers to it as “magical writings”.
• These crafting spells with no description of the items they produce: Silver Quill, Scroll of Stamina, Scroll of Intellect, Scroll of Spirit, Earthen Ink, Silver Ink, Ivory Ink, Random Card: Rogues, Scroll of Recall.
• Milling: Crush 5 herbs to create paste for inks. This will destroy the herbs in the process. (This seems to work exactly like prospecting does for jewelcrafters)
• Runic Blast Trace a rune of power, blasting an enemy for ??? Arcane damage. Consumes a vial of Ivory Ink when used. (more of those profession unique spells and abilities.

The only recipie that has been found so far has been this (most likely a low level skill around the Apprentice level of crafting) Runeword of Minor Magic - Inscribe a runeword of minor magic onto a piece of chest armor to increase spell damage from magical spells and effects by up to 3 for 1 hour.

First Aid: We got new Bandages.

Frostweave Bandage
Materials: 1x Frostweave Cloth
Heals 4760 damage over 8 sec
Requires First Aid 350 to use

Heavy Frostweave Bandage
Materials: 2x Frostweave Cloth
Heals 5480 damage over 8 sec
Requires First Aid 425 to use

Fishing: Now there isn’t anything specified but these are possible fishing spells.
