What do you want to see as the next expansion?
So I figure this is going to be a long post. I’ll break it up into about 3 different articles to make it easier for you all to keep track of everything. So in the past 24 hours I’ve been asked a few times about what my thoughts are on the next expansion. Not so much Wrath of the Lich King but what comes after. Many times I have heard “Spooner we can’t kill Arthas, after Arthas what the hell do we do?” I would agree to a degree that taking out the Lich King and ending the scourge (though it’ll still remain in little camps I suppose since clearing out ALL the scourge in game would ruin it) would be a massive victory.
However, there are A LOT of different ways that another expansion could work and many different enemies to fight. I’ll start off with the least likely (but possibly most unexpected) candidate for another expansion. Argus and beyond.
Straight from the Wiki here’s a quick rundown of Argus.
Argus was the original homeworld of the Eredar (and hence the Draenei, who are physically identical to the original eredar). It was apparently a utopian world whose inhabitants were both vastly intelligent and highly gifted in magic. Argus was ruled by a triumvirate of the greatest and most powerful eredar mages: Kil’jaeden, Archimonde, and Velen. It is possible that they ruled from Mac’Aree, the most sacred of the cities on Argus, according to Jessera of Mac’Aree.
Eventually, Argus attracted the attention of Sargeras. The Destroyer offered the Eredar a deal: in exchange for their loyalty, he would give them power undreamed of by all races. Kil’jaeden and Archimonde were quick to accept the offer, but Velen had a vision of the future: the eredar would be transformed into demons, under the rule of Sargeras. His advice to Kil’jaeden and Archimonde went unheeded, and he desperately sought a solution to this dilemma. Eventually, Velen was contacted by the Naaru, and he fled with his followers, renaming his people the Draenei, or Exiled Ones.
Kil’jaeden, Archimonde, and the rest of their race became the feared, insidious sorcerers and tacticians of the Legion.
It is unclear whether the world of Argus was destroyed by the Eredar’s sudden demonic powers (as implied by previous lore), or if it survived their transformation. If Argus still exists, it is certainly a stronghold of the Burning Legion, possibly their headquarters. Rise of the Horde leans towards this interpretation, though nothing is explicitly stated.
We don’t know where Alleria is or Turalyon. We also don’t know where the Worgen came from or any other number of entities. As well we can get into Ethereal storytelling here since they’re a pretty popular race in Outland as far as this expansion goes. When Ner’zhul attempted to open portals throughout Draenor. However, the vast energies that the spell created tore the planet apart, and from this the shattered realm of Outland was created. He went through one of the portals and was caught by theBurnign Legion, got ripped to shreds, got tortured, and then became the Lich King through various other unpleasant things. But there were many other portals opened and many other possibilities.
I mentioned this as the first possibility for an expansion because it’s the least likely and the weakest argument to be honest. Next time (later today) I’ll get into the two BIG contenders for the next expansion: The Maelstrom or The Emerald Dream.

It’s a nice idea.
I’d like to see more of The Maelstrom or Th Emerald Dream in my opinion though.

Yeah Argus is a nice idea for maybe a patch you know? Like patch content where you get to go through one of the many portals all around Outland and go see such and such thing.
That’d help bring people back to Outland once we’re well beyond it in Northrend.

Sorry, The Anonymous Comments were me.

My guess would be the Maelstorm.
There’s a lot of known content there such as the Broken Isles, the Tomb of Sargeras and the Naga kingdom.
I predict the naga will be less of a threat with no ‘known’ leader for this expansion, and the Maelstorm would be a great way to ‘bring them back’. Much like they’re doing with some of Azeroths creatures with Northrend.
And the Emerald Dream still feels like its a ways away, but it is a good possibility.

You caught me in the middle of writing the next piece lol. But to kinda drop some teasers. Azshara, Old Gods, Giant Octopus city, Undermine, South Seas, Pandaria.
Mmmmm the vast oceans of the South Seas hold many treasures indeed.
