The Daily Spoon: Issues with Omen threat Meter.

By and large Omen is the most popular threat meter mod out there and with good reason. Omen has been a staple of the raiding community for some time as it really makes or breaks a fight now for many guilds tackling difficult bosses where threat plays a major role int he encounter. Since Patch 2.4 went live the number of issues hasn’t been exactly small; so here and now I’m going to try and go a little in depth as to how to make things better.

For starters, it’s a great idea to go download the latest version of Omen 2 and using the Ace automatic updater is almost crucial for players like me that don’t want to spend hours tracking down the latest versions. There are a lot of bugs and errors that the creator has changed or fixed but as always there are only so many hours a day he can commit to working on this thing (guy has to eat right?) so any bugs that you notice in the latest version are always good to report.

Before anything, just flat out delete your Omen folder in the Interface > Addons folder on your computer. This will make sure that no outdated files stay in the Omen folder from Omen 1.0 which will cause all different brands of problems. Some things like the threat library Threat-1.0 are obsolete in patch 2.4 and is a dependency of the Omen mod. This may not have been removed in your original update, and has been reported to cause issues with Omen 2.0. Just kill the folder for now.

Now you download Omen! This is something I have been dealing with personally in my guild. Make sure that you have the latest version and that all your raid members have the same version as you. You can tell which version you have bu the ID number on the Omen UI. It should read: r66655 or something like that. Here is a screenshot to clarify what you are looking for.

You automatically get notifications if your version is outdated when someone in your guild or raid has a newer version, but if you’re checking on this prior to a raid, you can just compare it to the latest posting on WoW Ace. Make sure you have the most recent version each time you encounter a bug, because there’s a possibility that has already been fixed in an update. The worst bug that has been in Omen 2.0 so far is the heavy CPU usage by the AOE and Healer Modes. This has been fixed, and you shouldn’t need to worry about that issue anymore; no more lockups or crashes. If you still see this issue, report it!

Remember that if everyone in your raid group has a different version of Omen it will not work properly and there will be missing players and really screwed up numbers. Keeping the version correct and also understanding that due to Blizzard’s revamped combat log (which sucks so terribly) there are going to be issues for a while. I expect all of our problems to be resolved around Patch 2.4.2 which has yet to be discussed on the official forums.

Still i wish Blizzard would just release their own threat meter already and spare us this BS.
