The first gate is now open on US Servers, players can fight Grand Warlock Alythess and Lady Sacrolash. According to the first reports, gates on european servers are still locked.

Originally you were supposed to turn in Essence of Immortals but to keep things fair with servers that don’t have many end game guilds Blizzard opted to just make the gates open by themselves over time.
