So what do you think of Tweetcraft?

tweetcraftlogoSo what’s Tweetcraft?

Basically, if you have a Twitter account you can link it with this in game addon and send tweets and even screenshots out to the internet without having to tab out of the game. In theory this is pretty seet, in practice – also sweet.

The project is headed by a group of developers who just wanted to churn this puppy out in their free time. The code for the addon is open sourced which means anybody and everybody can look at it; this transparency means the likelihood of getting hacked or otherwise harmed maliciously as a result of using the application are pretty fucking low. So far it doesn’t violate anything in Blizzard’s TOS which is also a really good thing.

(TweetCraft was created by Gabor Ratky of EPAM Systems, Dan Fernandez and Mike Sampson from Microsoft, with Lincoln Anderson from 352 Media designing the WPF application UI and logos)

You can:

  • Post screenshots to twitpic from the game
  • Automate posting tweets whenever you get an achievement in game.
  • Send and receive while you’re in flight to cut down on interruptions.
  • And more.

I’m not exactly endorsing the application by any means, but I’m using it and would suggest if you guys have a twitter account and want to hang in the WoW community some more; this is a great way to do it without taking time away from playing. But what do you think? Is it stupid and pointless or something worth picking up?

I’ll be getting it. I like the idea, easy way to communicate funny screenshots without the need of a third party host site to link from on the forums.

I think it’s pretty useless. I’m skeptical that there’s anyone who tweets enough screenshots to make using this worthwhile. The auto-tweeting of achievements would eventually get incredibly annoying especially if you have a lot of newer players where you’re getting trivial achievements constantly. Any other use I can think of for this has in-game options in place (guild chat, city chat, LFG, calendar etc.). I doubt this will take off.
