The first time I cam across this particular problem was way back in th olden days when I was getting Drakk’s blood for my Onyxia attunement. Ahh those were the good ole days. Either way I accidentally released thinking I was accepting a combat rez during the fight and wasn’t able to get credit for the kill and thus unable to loot the blood. This was back when UBRS was a 15 man raid.

Hortus replied to a post where somebody else had a similar problem involving Kael’s head in the new Magister’s Terrace instance and he actually released the numbers on this issue. Great information here folks.

You need to be in the instance and within 100 yards of the NPC when it dies to get credit for the quest drop. It’s been this way for quest items on bosses for a long time in order to prevent people exploiting quest drops.

In the future I would suggest not releasing your spirit while the quest NPC is still alive, and then not looting the corpse until everyone has returned. The body will not decay for 1 hour if it still has not been looted.[ Post edited by Hortus ] (src)
