I find myself spending more and more time analyzing mages currently and in the coming expansion. Mainly because Nessaja plays a mage and I like to be useful in helping out with ideas and ways to spec/gear etc. So I figured that since all the Alpha news is slowing down to barely even a trickle, I should showcase mages this week and pending your comments on the post, a different class next.

Here is a disclaimer in bold text for you. Everything here is in the Alpha and is subject to change. I am posting this to provide my readers with exactly what they asked for and at the same time to help build hype about the coming expansion.

Alrighty with that out of the way, let’s go down the list.

We got some new abilities coming up in the Arcane group.

• Conjured Food: Sweet Potato Pie (75), Strudel (79)
• Conjured Water: Rain Water (74), Crystal Spring Water (78)

This is from the Fire group.

• Frostfire Bolt (Rank 1): “Launches a bolt of frostfire at the enemy, causing 629-732 Fire damage, slowing movement speed by 40% and causing an additional 57 Fire damage over 9 sec. If the target is more vulnerable to Frost damage, this spell will cause Frost instead of Fire damage. 3 second cast time.” (WWI Update): Frostfire bolt benefits from talents enhancing both frost and fire damage, enhancing elementalist builds. (Level 75)

Finally there’s a new type of shield that might make Frost mages go nuts.

• Shatter Shield: “Instantly shields you, absorbing 2000 Physical damage. Lasts 1 min. When the shield is destroyed, all enemies within 10 yards are frozen for 8 sec.” (1200 mana, instant, 30sec cd, Level 80)

They also changed current existing spells.

• Mage Armor: now reduces duration of harmful magic effects on you by 50%.
• Evocation - Mana restored increased to 75% (up from 60) and duration increased to 10 seconds (up from 8 seconds).
• Invisibility - Fade out time changed to 3 sec (down from 5).
